Winter is here

Two days ago the first children were riding a cycle route into the inner city – all fluro vests and bright blue sky – the start of a month long trial of a safe route that will bring north and south together.

Today, those skies are dark and the road is white with hail stones (there were still a few hardy cyclists) but the motorists had sensibly switched to 4WD.

There is no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing (and or vehicles when it comes to the Southern Passes).

Some people will need to be out in this, looking after other people, vital infrastructure and live-stock, for others this is a great time to hunker down and read those books you’ve been saving up for a stormy day.

Books can do so many things. They can transport us to another time and place, or they can tell us something we didn’t know, maybe even lighting the spark for our own amazing discovery.

Pick up a book. You won’t be disappointed.
